Your Information

Privacy
Policy.

Last updated: January 2025 — Written in plain English, on purpose.
The short version: We do not sell your information. We do not share your documents with anyone unless you explicitly ask us to — like when you choose to connect with an attorney or resource in our network. Your situation stays yours. That's not a legal disclaimer. That's how we were built.
01. Who We Are

ANSWR.fyi is a tenant defense information and document assistance platform. We are not a law firm. We exist to help tenants understand their rights, identify their documents, calculate their deadlines, and generate the legal paperwork needed to respond to eviction proceedings — for free.

When this policy says "ANSWR," "we," "us," or "our," we mean the ANSWR.fyi platform and the people who built it.

02. What We Collect

We collect only what we need to help you. Here's exactly what that means:

Information you give us directly:

  • Documents you upload (eviction notices, UD complaints, etc.)
  • Your description of your situation in your own words
  • Your state and the type of notice you received
  • Your goal (fighting back, buying time, negotiating, or getting emergency help)
  • Contact information only if you voluntarily provide it — for example, to connect with an attorney or resource

Information collected automatically:

  • Basic usage data (which pages you visit, how long you spend on each step)
  • Your general geographic region (state-level only, to provide relevant legal information)
  • Device type and browser, for technical compatibility

We do not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email, or any identifying information unless you choose to give it to us.

03. What We Do With It

We use your information for one purpose: to help you.

  • To identify your document and tell you what it means
  • To calculate your deadlines based on your situation and state
  • To generate a legal Answer or other documents tailored to your case
  • To recommend resources, attorneys, or programs that may apply to your situation
  • To improve the accuracy and usefulness of ANSWR over time
✓ When we share your info
The only time your information is shared with any third party is when you explicitly ask us to connect you — for example, clicking "Connect Me With an Attorney" or "Find Emergency Housing Resources." Even then, we share only what's needed to make that connection, and only with vetted partners in our network. You will always know this is happening before it does.
✗ What we will never do
We will never:
  • Sell your information to advertisers, data brokers, or any third party
  • Share your documents or case details without your explicit permission
  • Use your situation to target you with ads anywhere else on the internet
  • Share your information with your landlord, their attorney, or any court
  • Contact you without your permission
04. Your Documents

When you upload a document to ANSWR, it is processed to identify what type of document it is and extract relevant information to help you — deadline dates, notice type, named parties, and similar details needed to generate your response.

We do not store your uploaded documents permanently. Documents are processed in your session to generate your Answer and are not retained in a database linked to your identity.

If you choose to save your case, connect with an attorney, or use a premium feature that requires ongoing access to your documents, we will tell you clearly what is being stored and why — and you will have the ability to delete it at any time.

05. Cookies & Tracking

We use minimal, essential cookies to keep the platform working — remembering where you are in the onboarding process, for example. We do not use advertising cookies. We do not use tracking pixels that follow you across other websites.

We may use privacy-respecting analytics (such as aggregate, anonymized usage statistics) to understand how people use ANSWR so we can improve it. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

06. Attorney & Resource Connections

One of ANSWR's core features is helping you find vetted tenant rights attorneys, legal aid organizations, emergency housing resources, and public benefit programs. Here's exactly how that works and what it means for your privacy:

  • You initiate the connection. We never automatically send your information to any attorney or organization. You choose to connect.
  • You control what's shared. When you choose to connect, we will show you what information will be shared and ask for your confirmation before sending anything.
  • Vetted partners only. Every attorney, legal aid organization, and resource in our network has agreed to our privacy standards and our tenant-first principles. We do not list organizations that represent landlords or that charge predatory fees.
  • No kickbacks. We do not receive referral fees from attorneys or organizations for connecting you with them. Our directory exists to help you, not to monetize your crisis.
07. Children's Privacy

ANSWR is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information to our platform, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

08. Your Rights

Under California law (CCPA) and general privacy principles we believe in regardless of where you live, you have the right to:

  • Know what information we have about you
  • Request that we delete your information
  • Opt out of any data sharing (beyond the platform functionality you're actively using)
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights

To make any of these requests, email us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

09. Changes To This Policy

If we ever change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top of this page and — if the change affects how your existing information is used — we will notify you directly if we have your contact information.

We will never change this policy to weaken your privacy protections without being completely transparent about it. That's a commitment, not just a legal formality.

We'll Answer That Too.
