How This Works

Terms
of Use.

Last updated: January 2025 — Written in plain English, on purpose.
The short version: ANSWR is a free information and document tool — not a law firm, and not your attorney. Use it to understand your rights and build your defense. For anything complex or high-stakes, also talk to a real lawyer. We'll help you find one free of charge. By using ANSWR, you agree to what's below — which is written like a human being wrote it, because one did.
01. What ANSWR Is

ANSWR.fyi is a tenant defense information platform. We use AI and curated legal knowledge to help tenants:

  • Understand eviction notices and court documents
  • Calculate response deadlines
  • Generate legal response documents (Answers, Demurrers, and similar)
  • Navigate the eviction court process
  • Find attorneys, legal aid, emergency housing resources, and public benefits

ANSWR is focused on California eviction law, with expansion to additional states planned.

02. What ANSWR Is Not
⚠ Important — Please Read Carefully
ANSWR is not a law firm. We are not your attorney. Nothing on this platform is legal advice.

The information and documents ANSWR provides are general legal information based on California law and the details you share with us. They are not a substitute for the advice of a licensed attorney who knows the full details of your specific situation.

We say this once, clearly — not to protect ourselves with fine print, but because we want you to use us correctly. ANSWR is a powerful starting point. For anything complex — a case heading to trial, a disability discrimination claim, a landlord with a history of fraud — you should also speak with a licensed tenant rights attorney. We can help you find one.

By using ANSWR, you acknowledge that:

  • No attorney-client relationship is created by using this platform
  • The legal documents we generate are templates based on the information you provide — they should be reviewed carefully before filing
  • Laws change, and every situation is different — ANSWR cannot guarantee any particular outcome
  • ANSWR is not a substitute for consulting a licensed attorney in complex situations
03. Using ANSWR

ANSWR is free to use for its core features. No account is required. You may use ANSWR if:

  • You are a tenant, occupant, or person facing an eviction proceeding
  • You are a family member, friend, or advocate helping someone in that situation
  • You are a legal aid professional or researcher using the platform for legitimate purposes

You may not use ANSWR to:

  • Assist a landlord, property manager, or their legal representatives in evicting a tenant
  • Generate fraudulent legal documents or misrepresent facts to a court
  • Scrape, copy, or reproduce the platform's content or tools for commercial purposes
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, hack, or interfere with the platform's systems
A note on this
ANSWR was built for tenants. We have nothing against landlords who treat their tenants with dignity and follow the law — most do. But this tool exists specifically to level the playing field for people who can't afford an attorney. Using it against the people it was built to protect defeats the entire point.
04. The Documents We Generate

ANSWR generates legal response documents — including Answers to Unlawful Detainer complaints — based on California court formatting standards and the information you provide.

These documents are starting points, not finished products. Before you file anything with a court, you should:

  • Read the document carefully and make sure every statement is accurate
  • Fill in any blanks (your name, case number, court information) with the correct details from your paperwork
  • Verify your filing deadline from the paperwork you received — deadlines in eviction cases are strict and unforgiving
  • If possible, have a tenant rights attorney or legal aid organization review it before filing

ANSWR is not responsible for errors that result from inaccurate information you provide, or from filing documents without verifying their accuracy and completeness.

05. Accuracy & Limitations

We work hard to keep the information on ANSWR accurate and up to date. California eviction law is complex and changes frequently. Despite our best efforts:

  • We cannot guarantee that every piece of information on this platform reflects the most current version of the law
  • Local ordinances (rent control, just cause protections, etc.) vary significantly by city and county — ANSWR provides general guidance but may not capture every local rule
  • AI-generated content, including our AI assistants and document tools, can make mistakes — always review output carefully

If you find an error in our legal information, please tell us. We take accuracy seriously and will fix it.

06. Premium Features

ANSWR's core tools are free and always will be. We offer optional premium AI-powered specialists for a small one-time fee:

  • Tzu Nami — AI eviction defense counsel ($3.33)
  • Lumbo — AI tenant investigator and public records researcher ($3.33)
  • Elena Honeycomb — AI benefits navigator and emergency resource specialist ($3.33)
  • The Power Trinity — all three ($9.99)

These are AI-powered tools, not licensed attorneys. The same limitations described in Section 02 apply to them. Payment is processed securely. We do not store payment card information.

If a premium feature fails to work as described, contact us and we will make it right.

07. Attorney & Resource Directory

ANSWR maintains a directory of vetted tenant rights attorneys, legal aid organizations, and community resources. Inclusion in our directory means we have reviewed an organization and believe they operate in tenants' interests — it is not an endorsement of any specific outcome they can achieve for you.

ANSWR does not receive referral fees or commissions for connecting you with attorneys or organizations in our directory. Connections are made based on fit, not financial incentive.

Any attorney you engage through our directory will establish their own attorney-client relationship with you, governed by their own engagement terms. ANSWR is not a party to that relationship.

08. Intellectual Property

The ANSWR platform, brand, AI personas (Tzu Nami, Lumbo, Elena Honeycomb), content, and design are owned by ANSWR.fyi and its creators. You may not reproduce, copy, or distribute any part of the platform for commercial purposes without written permission.

The legal documents you generate using ANSWR are yours. We don't claim ownership of documents created from your information for your use in your own legal case.

09. Changes & Availability

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any part of ANSWR at any time. We'll do our best to give notice of major changes. We are not liable for any interruption in service.

These Terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of ANSWR after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms. We will always note the date they were last updated at the top of this page.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from your use of ANSWR will be resolved in the courts of Los Angeles County, California.

Just Ask.
